Ok, although new to the scene, I have noted that all the V11 bikes have a 15M or 15RC computer, right?
I have the most annoying spot on the RPM scale, at about 2500-3000rpm where hesitation, backfiring and less-than-smooth operation is the order of the day...
I am running the HD-derived TPS, the Weber Marelli PF4C, which has a slightly different curve over the PF3C which is the normal part. But both had this proclivity.. they both popped and farted the same...
Has anyone relieved this condition with add-on boxes, such as a PC USB III or put in another computer, such as a Cliff Jeffries ECU?
Thanks for any assistance.

Hi Tryg, Bob K we meet at the Ragged. I own the green V11 (ex RAAF). My bike did the same and other little annoying traits. I believe Cliff Jeffries ECU works very well. However I had my computer remapped by a chap, Alan I think his name is, that has an Ultimate and most Guzzi codes. All I had to do was mark the throttle position and note the RPM where the problem manifested. I just stuck a strip of aluminium tape on the switch block next to the handgrip bent a piece of metal in a kind of Z. This “Z” was cable tied to the grip and a pencil, with a cable tie rested in the hole where the brake lever pivots. Although not racetrack perfect a vast improvement and you get three goes at it. Contact Tommy Newell (07) 38919565 if you are interested. Another thing to consider for the roughness is the inlet rubber manifolds. Ensure the clamps are tight but not over tight. My bike always seemed to run rougher than the Centuro I once owned; I just assumed it was the difference between the heads. Recently the idle problems began to worsen , turned out one of the manifolds had a hairline crack causing one cylinder to run lean. Replaced both the manifolds, very different bike cured problems I did not know existed. Runs smother right across the rev range, no snatch (I just know that is going to get some comments) gear changers are better and no more numb hands amongst other things. A good way to check the integrity of the manifolds is, with the bike running, spray copious amounts of WD40 over them and note any change in the running and go from there. Hope this helps
Regards Bob K

Bob, thanks for the reply, great to meet you.
Yes I am very interested in seeking a cure to this mapping issue. I don't believe it is a perishing rubber issue in my case, and they have been tested whilst running using propane... I am not a fan of using WD40 on rubber (it itself is a perishing agent to less-than-noble materials!).
It is good to note, that the essential cure is a mapping fix (hence the Jeffries ECU or another clip-on box affair). It seems to me, from the small amount of reading and research, that there is a LAZY spot in that area where the transition occurs. Now that I have the HD-inspired Weber Marelli PF4C, instead of the PF3C, the stumbling is much more noticeable.
Thanks again Bob, I will be happy to get to know the Newells once I am in Toowoomba. (Sigh.. I wont have Peter Roper close by anymore!!)
Cheers

Maybe the Toowoomba Guzzi mob might be able to chip in and get the Ultimap etc. Check it out: http://www.fuelinmoto.com.au/Go to Products and have a looksee

Waz, thanks for the info.
I would love to explore their products but that's a lot of coin for what is actually provided. Even if one was very lazy and had it made, the Cliff Jeffries ECU does all of what the FIM product does for half the cost. I am not knocking it, but for $350, even the PC USB III would be a cheaper way to fix the mapping issues.
I guess I was after ways people may have had success with, without add-on boxes or remapping.
If I was racing a MGS-01, on the other hand!
Cheers for the info.

I've just gone down the Cliff Jefferies ECU to replace the 16M in my 1100 Sport. What a wonderful improvement, it has all the bells and whistles of the PC III with so much more added adjustments at about the same price. And Cliff would have to be one of the nicest and most helpful people you could meet. Plus his unit is such a step up in Tech compared to the original unit. A little fine tuning (which any unit fitted to your bike will need) and the difference over std is unbelievable. What more could ya ask for.
