Picked up my V7 classic on Thursday from GC suzuki and am very pleased so far with my choice. Why is it called Don? My uncle left me some money, he used to ride bikes hence the name.
Only problem so far is the engine light comes on intermitently. Have checked the oil etc, so presume it is just a sensor playing up, will sort out soon - such an italian thing.
Can't wait to have the running in period over, although it is a good time to become familiar with the bike.

Congrats on the new purchase......we should all have an Uncle Don!!
The V7's a bit different to the Nevada I guess......trust you will enjoy some fun on those Nrthrn Rivers roads.

Thanks for the good wishes, will post some pics when I get a chance. There are a few similarities between the two bikes, am prefering the steering and cornering on the V7 but missing the Ikon shocks I put on the Nevada - guess that will have to happen sometime soon, the roads around the northern rivers are atrocious.
Will keep you posted as things happen
cheers Zilla

Have been out and about running "Don" in and in typical italian style, there is a couple of things cropping up like the intermittant (can"t spell!) engine light that comes on ( probably a mapping issue) and being hard to start first up. Being fuel injected shouldn't be such a problem, but it is a more primative fuel injection than the other half's Shiver. He doesn't have a choke and "Don" does. I guess the first service should help sort it out. The manuals are next to useless.
But, I love riding the bike, it is very forgiving, no surprises and makes me smile, so all the above doesn't matter.  . We are thinking of a trip to Tasmania for several weeks earlyish next year. Will keep you posted.

Good to hear the smile factor is working. Amazing how that will help you overlook the more mundane problems of Guzziness.

Still would love to see some pics (hint, hint)

Breva 750's, it seems, like a really good warm-up before moving off, and don't always start 1st go.
The "choke" isn't really a choke as such......it's just a fast idle lever.
I had back-firing, popping and carrying on when the Breva was new.
Took it for a good (yes, I mean fast) blast when it was run in, and it suddenly ran really well, and "wanted" to start after a good long trip.
Recently put some injector cleaner in the tank (a brand Tom sells) and it's like a new bike.....fires up 1st go, feels smooth, does what the injector cleaner people claim.
(There's a bit more to tell about this.....maybe when I'm not pushed for time (on my lunch break right now) I'll recount my experience if it would be helpful).

Good one Zilla, Bought mine from down there suggest from experience that Tommy does the first service. I had em map mine before I picked it up should have done the same for you properly. Didnt have the same issues as you...i tend to get stuck in second trying to change down 40% of time...been meaning to ask Tommy to have a look at it. I find the seat a little hard, numbbum is a problem..but maybe I just need to toughen up!!!

Now its telling me I need a service at 2,000 klms, what the???

Hey Garth,

Hard seat on a V7Classic? You should try life on a Sport 1100.
Suggest some cement dust (or) you could just join the Cali club, Wal's always looking for new members & they do have rather nice T-shirts................

Yes, I have been considering creating a new tshirt line for the sml blockers ( as we are becoming a major faction within the organisation)...not going to be in time for Xmas Party (wherever that is??)...any ideas???

Guzzi small blockers____________________________

On the hard seat issue think it is because I am littel tall for V&..Hear beads and airhawks are best but at $180 think Ill give the beads and maybe some sheeps wool a go first.

Thanks guys, we are heading (that is other half on his shiva) down the waterfall way to Dorrigo late next week for a overnight run :applause: so hopefully it should open things up a bit.
Mark, will definitely try for photo opportunities and post 'em and Hairee, would like some more info when you have time.
Will have to see how the bum holds out on the seat. Being a girl means I have short arms, so some handle bar risers were installed and seem to help. No difference to the handling thank goodness.

Hi zilla.
Re the probs I had last month with the Breva......it was surging when cruising at a steady highway speed, not idling, popping and dying when trying to keep it idling at the lights, not starting first go....just generally not running well and getting worse.
Feared the worst, that it might be something with the electronics, so arranged to take it in to Tom one Saturday morning.

It played up all the way in to Deshon St, but of course I pulled up in front of his workshop, and it was idling perfectly!
His Highness took it for a spin, came back and removed the air bleed screws one at a time with the engine running.
We then put a bottle of injector cleaner (Interject) in the tank, I rode home, and it has been running brilliantly.

We are thinking maybe I had some bad fuel.....a cop-out I know for repair shops that can't fix fuel injection problems, but it seems this may have been the cause, even though I usually fill up with BP Ultimate, from a high turn-over servo near me.
Maybe I had some bad fuel on a ride.....as you would know, it's not always easy to find premium un-leaded.

I contacted Interject from their web-site, and they agreed with me that the fuel we are sold often leaves a lot to be desired.
They recommend keeping your tank full if possible, to reduce condensation problems (?), and while Tom suggested using the additive monthly (I suppose this depends on kilometres travelled), Interject say 3 months or 5,000 km's should be adequate.
More frequent use would be ok as well, they say, and it should always be added to a full tank.
Regular use from new is the way to go they reckon (well, they would say that, wouldn't they), but maybe there is some truth in this.

Tom also tells me he has seen how this stuff disperses water from fuel tanks.
I checked out a few web-sites and forums, and there seems to be a bit of debate about the efficacy or otherwise, of these sort of products.
Some sites say that for existing problems, dismantling and cleaning injectors is the only way to go.....surely not for a new bike though.
Hope this is useful.....maybe the manufacturer's comments re using their stuff from new, has some validity.
Anyway, went for a bit of a spin tonight, and the Breva's still running fine.....I'll probably use the additive every couple of months, depending on k's travelled.

I would be interested to hear from anyone reading this, with knowledge and/or first hand experience of such matters.....I certainly know nothing other than what I've passed on here.
:guzzi: :race:

Thanks for that Hairee, I will certainly be keeping an eye out for similar problems with my bike. I do use a diesel cleaner in my old Acco horse truck and it seems to cut down the amount of smoke it blows. I will ask the other half - he is pretty knowledgeable about a lot of stuff.
cheers
