 Post subject: Tyre choices for a nevada

Any thoughts out there as to the tyre (rear) which would suit my nevada best? General conditions around here are- really bumpy, rutted and potholed roads ( and that is just the bitumen!!) with occasional blasting along flat bits :D Any suggestions or past experiences would be gratefully received as I am not sure what to go with.

Tyres are one of those items that have many different opinions. The one thing I will strongly recommend you do is to keep the same tyre size and profile as recommended by Guzzi. There is a tendency for new owners to thisk fatter tyres are better but Guzzi recommend a tyre size for a reason. Its all part of the handling steering geometry of the bike.

Now as to the brand and type. I have 2 small block Guzzis. Both are older predecessors of yours but neither is a cruiser style like the Nevada. I use Bridgestone BT 45 Battleaxe. They are a relatively inexpensive dual compound tyre that sticks really well to the road. The softer compound tends to chew out after a while but I really don't care about that. They still stick well. MY Lemans MK III, which is a big block, heavier than the Nevada, got 18,000 km out of a front and about half that for a rear.

This is an opinion only. Others will have other preferences but I have never had any cause to distrust the Bridgestones.

Depending on the tyre size, certain makes and types of tyres may not be available. If in doubt, and if you are happy with them, replace the tyre with the same.

I agree with Rod , I personally love Bridgies, but that said they aren't some peoples cup of tea.
I find they move around a little more than other brands but it's always controlable, I find most of the others hang on really well until they 'let go' & when they do it's 'big time'.
Stick with the factory size, try a 'Name' brand, if you don't like them try something else next time, you'll find the right ones sooner or later.

I'm with the others re Bridgstones.
I don't ride all that hard, but enjoy a bit of a scritch-scratch of the pegs, on twisty bitumen with my 750 Breva.
I fitted them at Tom N's suggestion, as I didn't like the feel of the Pirellis it came with.
The front Bridgstone especially gives a much nicer, progressive feel leaning into corners.
12,000 km or more for the rear, and double that for the front seems about what I get.

Thank you all for your thoughts, I will have a look at the bridgestones and have also been looking at some Michelins which seem to be suited to the cruiser type of bike. Must admit, I am not too worried about the life of the tyre, but more about how well it behaves on the road - I'm not all that brave yet to go scraping pegs - I like looking at the scenery :moped: lol

That's funny! :lol:
Only 5 minutes ago the wife and I were chuckling about some weird translations, or "Konglish" she's brought back from Korea, but said we shouldn't laugh, as we'd probably be just as humorous to them if we were speaking their language. She had to be very careful not to laugh at her students, as they would easily be discouraged from trying :focus:

Re the Bridgstones zilla, they feel better at lower speeds especially, cf the Pirellis.
After so many years away from bikes, modern tyres were quite a (pleasant) surprise to me.
I'd love to experiment with different brands, but it's an expensive experiment if you're not happy with them.
Unless someone convinces me otherwise from personal experience, I'll stick with what I know works, on my particular model bike, and I suspect they'd be ok on your Nevada.

Mmmmm, I've ordered a set of Michelins from my special tyre man. They will replace the oem Metzelers which need to go. My other half has had very good results using various Michelin rubber (as well as Avon Distanzia) on his dual sport. I know Bridgestone make a very good sports tyre, but will give the Michies a go and report back on their performance at a later date. :crossy: Cheers,
