Hi Naomi,
Welcome to the forum hope that you enjoy it.
Where did you ride from, 14 hours to get to the Budgie, that's the type of comitment we love to see, as it sounds like it was your first, did you enjoy yourself, was there anything that you did not like, anything you think that could have been better?
Feedback is the only way that we can keep the Budgie running strong & going forward.
Enjoy life & stay safe,

I thought that Naomi was actually making a statement, re: 14 hours each way to get to the rally.
Ok here it goes, mind you I was not there at the time, but it was related to me by someone whom has attended every Budgie.
A few years ago, a few members were indulging in more than enough ales & generally being quite loose with the truth (anyone whom has attended any amount of rallies knows exactly what I am talking about), when one remarked to another that the club emblem did in fact look like a Budgie not an eagle.
As they had enjoyed a rather large amount of beverage ( see above description of general rally behaviour, ditto for this), they were a little under the weather, so to speak. So the ruptured part came about, in respect to their current physical condition or the amount of effort & distance involved in holding the rally.
This may or may not be exactly how the Ruptured Budgie name came about, but this was related to me at a Budgie quite a few years ago & it was at a rather early hour of the morning, so may be a combination of rally tall tales & alcohol induced scant regard for truthfulness.
Maybe we could get one of the original participants to briefly describe the events, me thinks there is on or two of them still around to this day, still members or should I say life members, me thinks.
............................................................................................................
...........................................................................................................
...........................................................................................................
...........................................................................................................
Or is it just better to leave it for someone to make up a legend of how the Budgie got it's name........................................................................
Maybe around the beer tent one early Sunday morning at the rally, when all is more believable.
Be Safe,

Hi
My recolection is that Peter Thompson came up with the name for the rally. The budgie part comes from the moto guzzi eagal ,being referd to as a budgie and I think that the ruptured part comes from the words sounding good together and is ment to imply that club members and their bikes are not all concourse and new more used and riden. It may not be quite as deep and meanig full as this but at least it showed a bit more imagination than naming the rally after the local town. Can you confirm this Peter or did the process involve you and Warren drinking so much Stones and beer that it is hard to recall.

Hi Thanks to all those tryin to answer my question. Seems to be one of those topics that would probably be best left for early hours when inebriated!!! I rode down from Longreach with my partner Regan and son Bruce and a mutual mate Terry. Might of took less time to travel had I had thermals on and less need for regular intakes of Tea to warm up. A good time was had by all and thought the site was interesting to say the least for a novice rider like myself, water crossing, say no more LOL For future rallies for us ladies how about just having a screen for us to squat behind as would be better than the dunnies provided and reduce the need to use a scarf whenever going to prevent intake of toxic fumes!!!

Hi Naomi,
I appreciate the sentiments of the toilets some, the joy of my not having any sense of smell, I can't smell them or anything at all.
As the island is on a water table, used for food crops down stream, we have to be a little careful with human waste getting into the water system.
The toilets we currently use are naturally decomposting toilets (many thanks to the guys from Nature Loo for supplying us the toilets [blatant commercial plug there, but the owner is a motorcyclist & gave us the toilets at a greatly reduced cost]), the local council advised us that we have to have some kind of toilet arrangement in place, we tried porta loos, but the smell was very similar, so I was told & the cost was quite expensive, putting pressure on the gate price.
We don't want to put the entry up if we can avoid it, we make little from the gate with expenses, badges, donations, etc, we pretty much rely on the bar takings to run the club & fund the rally for the next year. There are getting less rallies every year & we would like to keep the Budgie running years into the future.
I had had a thought about the toilets, maybe securing some more & maybe holding them back until around Sat lunchtime, taking the old ones out & replacing them with fresh one.
This will be a decision the club will have to make, though we get a discount on them they are not cheap, but that is my thoughts on it.
The idea of having women squatting behind a blind worries me some, whom would be responsible if some weirdo was to get in there & harass women, you do not come to a rally to put up with that & nor should any woman be subjected to that, guess we would have to post some kind of security, I'd like to think that anyone attending the rally would not consider such behavior as savoury, but that may be showing some naivety.
Guess we have some thinking to do.
Great suggestion though, that is what we like. We would rather have people come to us with their ideas & suggestions, rather than go home & complain to others. At the end of the day it is not only our rally, but it belongs to those people that attend, whether they be members of our club, some other club or just someone who likes rallies & motorcycles in general.
This is only my opinion, for what it's worth, not any official policy of the club
Cheers,

HI Naomi
I am the Guz01's missus. Welcome and glad you enjoyed the Rally.
I agree about the smelly toilets, BTW. They make me puke, but i thought it was just me and my peculiar sensibilities. I prefer to find a quiet river bank, except they arent so quiet any more. After today, no doubt Wal and Young Mark will be on the lookout for lone women heading off into the distant fields and pastures.
After a few drinks, apparently the toilets dont smell as bad, or so i am told. I have no intentions of ever finding out! I guess they are better than nothing. At least they dont smell at all when we go to "clean" them out before the next rally.
As for the Ruptured Budgie, my take on the legend is that it is much as Robin stated. I heard that the poor little budgie was very cold and hung over on Sunday morning and fell off his perch, hence rupturing himself.
Cheers

Hi Goddess, thanks for the welcome message. The banks of the river are fine as long as its dark and your partnere keeping watch for pervs! Anyway the ride to and from the rally and the fun had whilst there far outweighed the amenities for any calls of nature. It definatey made me realise I wanted to attend more and it was worth getting back on a bike after 14yrs break. Although cold days were had it still made for better riding than back in Scotland and the lack of traffic over here is a bonus.

On the toilet front,
The good news is that we will be purchasing 4 extra toilets, two of which we will be spraying the tents pink (or something to that effect), which will be reserved for ladies urinals only.
Me thinks you girls will police them quite heavily & Dog (no that's not a typo) help any guy caught trying to sneak in for a poop.
We are also considering moving two of the toilets off the southern bank to the main camping area, as at present we seem to have those toilets catering for around 20 or so people & the other 6 catering for the 300 or so people whom do not camp over there.
The new setup will be two ladies urinals & 8 toilets in the area near the bonfire & two in the southern camping area, as the rally continues to grow we may consider more toilets (possibly another 2 for the southern camp & 2 for the far northern area, near the gate), but we shall see how the numbers increase over time.
I must give may thanks to the guys at Nature Loo, all motorcycle riders & they give us a great deal, these toilets retail somewhere above $400, they work extremely well & anyone whom has emptied them after a few months will testify to their effectiveness.
If you want a naturally decomposting toilet, or know someone whom does, support the guys who support us & give them a call.
Enough of this toilet talk from me.

New update on the ladies urinal. The club has purchased a 'porta-loo' type enclosure that fits a Nature-Loo toilet. It is a lovely shade of green, but we shall be showering it with pretty pink line marking paint. This shall be the Ladies Urinal. It shall be up to you girls to police this urinal, we appreciate that there is physical limitations for the ladies going for a wee & doing it in a toilet that stinks is probably not the nicest of situations. I shall move some pictures of it over to my photobucket account & link them here so you can all have a looky see. There you go ladies, you asked if we can fix it for you. We have, but we won't be able to police it. So if you have any ideas of the placement & policing of the loo, then let us know. Okay here we go kiddies: Hope that makes all the ladies happy, as we want everybody to enjoy our rally with us.

I'd like to suggest that as this was Naomi's idea the club should allow her to do the official opening of this fantastic new facility at next years rally. I'm thinking a ribbon cutting, perhaps a speach (not too long please Naomi). Serously, we should. To my knowledge no rally has ever held a toilet grand opening. Another first for the "Budgie"

It could be known as "Naomi's Tardis", or some other suitable title. BTW, glad to see the Club's looking after a fellow 750 Breva rider.
