I could easily have lost my life today. Somebody wound off the rebound on my right fork leg and I found myself wallowing on to the wrong side of a bend. The bend was tight and blind and my speed was 100kph. I had to WAIT until the bike settled down before getting back. I did not dare touch the brake. I can tell you that the WAIT did nothing for my peace of mind !!! The closing speed would have been at least 150kph, in the event of oncoming traffic.
But I am alive.
I had no warning that I was Aware of, except that (now that I look back) a few weeks ago after the H A R T course, someone stole a heat shield from my muffler. I ordered a new pair and thought no more about it. This morning, again looking back, I experienced the vaguest sensation from the front. You would not call it a weave or a bounce. But it was. I know that now.
Perhaps the bloke who pinched my heat shield, also sabotaged the suspension: perhaps not. It could have been two different people. I don't believe that anyone was trying to kill me and I'm not angry. At least I don't think anyone wants me dead. It does make you wonder though.
And I wonder what I have to do to stay alive, after this.
I have memorised the position of the knobs relative to the clock face. Is there anything I've missed people?

Bill,
I know exactly where you are coming from, when I worked in the valley & used to park Masto at the side of the PCYC, I used to regularly (every evening) check suspension adjustments & anything else that could be easily f#cked with, as they were regularly.
I still do a pre-flight check as habit even though where I work now nobody goes anywhere near Masto.
At the end of the day I guess you have to be responsible for your own well being.
But I'd love to catch someone f#cking with someone else's bike as you can guess what the result would be.

There's some low-life around. Glad you're still with us, Bill!
The heat shield thing's a bit of a worry, as that would have to be someone with a Guzzi, one would think (or maybe with a Guzzi owning mate).
Not a nice thought. :(

Bill,
I am glad you didn't spear in too. This may be just an America/Euro thing, but I enquired why a guy had markings all over his upper fork controls for his preload, in the USA on my last trip there.

He then pointed out wax inside the flat-blade screwdriver inserts which controls the rebound/compression (did not have a lower adjuster), saying that people just like to fnack with stuff and these 'tell-tales' gave him an immediate visibility of anyone goofing with his gear.

I admit though, living in Australia, this was taken as a bit o'er the top....

Maybe not now, huh?!

For me, I am with Wal, any guy poking around someone elses' bike would be in a bit of jeopardy if I was around.... my rule, no touchy!!

Take care
