Hopefully most of you know about the risk of the Guzzi topbox for the Norge parting campany with the bike if you hit a good few bumps etc. It happened to me quite famously not once but twice on a club ride. It really spiced up the day for those following me! The cause is basically down to poor design of the bracket, and the way the box mounts to it.

In the USA there has been a recall, Guzzi has finally produced a modified bracket. Oddly no recall here yet, why not? I have to say that I was doubtful this "fix" would work as it was really just tacking a bit of metal onto a very flawed plastic bracket design. So, it comes as no suprise to hear from a Guzzi Tech forum member in the US that it has not solved the problem.

I'll reporduce some of his post below, you can read the full sage at http://forum.guzzitech.com/index.php?option=com_fireboard&Itemid=119&func=view&catid=25&id=6898#6898

Got the new bracket installed by dealer (seacoast sport cycle, Derry, NH) the last Tuesday in July. Went for a three day mini tour the following week. First time the bride was able to tour on the bike since new August of 07.Bike was phenomenal averaging over 50 mpg and few touches on the centerstand on backroads of Maine,Vermont, and New Hampshire. Only problem was that the topcase fell off. Was riding solo around Rangeley Lake and hit a good sized road divot. Felt behind and noticed a large amount of air where the topcase used to be.
Topcase had slid, rolled and popped open. Some ugly scrapes, a small hole on the backrest and the lockset had fallen out. A trip to the hardware store for some silver duct tape and we were functional again(duct tape doesn't really match the silver Norge) Went back to the dealer where pics were taken, a report filled out and sent to Piaggio. I'm assuming by the Christmas holidays there will be a response, or a replacement case which I really doubt that I'd trust.

The Norge is a great bike, but the topbox and bracket are to be avoided. Go with Givi or Hepco & Becker and you will not have to suffer this situation. i went for the H&B as recommended by Tom Newell. I can highly recommend it as a well designed and built bit of gear. It looks good too (see my post in the Introductions section if you want to check it out).

G'day Wayne,

Hope it all stays in place. I have to say after having the dramas I did I would not trust one again.

Welcome to the forum. Enjoy your stay.

But if ya had of left the original topbox the way it was, Mark, then you don't have to unpack the bloody thing.
All you had to do was work out how to get where you are going before the topbox, 'auto unpacked', you do realise it was supposed to be a factory feature, heated handgrips, big a#se fairing, adjustable this & that.
They figured that you lazy bloody Norge riders wouldn't be able to unpack your topbox so they had the bike do it for you.
See ya on WED night, when you buy me a beer for explianing your in-built Guzzi features for you.
Bloody Norge riders, they're nearly as soft as those f#cking Breva riders.

Not a problem at all,
I'll happily be shouting from the top shelf,
Not a stress at all,
Sh#t I'll even pour them for you,
No worries in the world,
I'll even serve them to you personally,
Easy peasy,
And you two actually bought real bikes to ride (Cali's).
Then we all woke up & realised it was all a dream.

God not only are ya's soft c#cks for not riding Cali's,
But ya's have all gone soft in the head too.

Bring a straw swagzz.....drink straight from the top-box.

I don't really like the look of top-boxes, except on Calis and out-and-out tourers like the Norge, but they're so handy.
Hepco and Becker is the way to go.
I bought their rack and smaller capacity box, Journey Series, for the Breva (fits one full-face helmet).
Hasn't detached itself so far.
