Has anybody heard any details of the protest ride organised for today, in Victoria?
I found one report which only said "hundreds" attended.
The ride was primarily to protest against the newly opened EastLink road, where motorcyclists will soon have to pay a toll.
Prior to this, motorcyclists travelled free on Victorian tollways.
It was also intended to protest the frontal identification proposal, which incidentally, according to a report in AMCN, was mocked at the recent Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development's workshop on motorcycle safety, held in Norway last month.
At this two day world summit on motorcycle safety, enforcement barely made a mention, the article says, and this was significant in that the workshop was run by government, not motorcycle lobbyists.
It's about time Qld motorcyclists stood up for themselves more openly, e.g. surely there should have been a similar ride held in Brisbane to coincide with today's Vic ride.
How did we (motorcyclists) come to accept paying tolls?
I'm sure many car drivers would be happy to let motorbikes through toll booths free of charge, to avoid delays, while those bikers without E-toll transponders fumble for change with gloves, jackets etc.
