What is a loop frame?

Postby Wal on Sun Apr 13, 2008 8:23 pm

If the bike you are looking at, is pre-70's & the frame appears to look like a loop (probably cause it is) then this is a loop frame Guzzi.

I found this for sale on the MGNOC site in the USA. I know nothing about it except that I just had to share it here. It really looks like a period trailer, but I'm not sure if they were around back then. Very cute :D

For sale: 1974 El Dorado 850 (Former LAPD); 1973 El Dorado 850; 1971 Ambassador 750 with Trailer

Postby al on Sun May 11, 2008 10:03 pm

what a treat. I get to log onto the forum for the first time and the first bike I get to see is my own. Must say it looks good. Mind you it won't be as good as the V700 that is currently under construction :D

yep, alive and kicking. just been out on M's v700 running it in so that it can do the epic trek to the Ruptured B Rally. So far 500kms complete and the motor hasn't blown up as yet.

Just been over to a mates place who has just about finished rebuilding a 72 Eldorado. Its all looking quite neat and tidy. He is thinking of getting it ready for the story bridge concorse. we will see.

In the interest of fair play,

Since everybody thinks that I bag out V7's constantly, which I don't, they are cool.

I found a really pretty picture, so to prove that I do like V7's here is a.........................................

Wal, not exactly sure what you have here, but it sure looks good. Its got V700 side covers, early 700/750 loop single instrument dash, Ambassador/V7 Special/Eldorado/850GT tank, and 850 crank case and majorly reshaped fuel cap. Even though it looks good it aint gonna look as good as the up and coming 1967 V700 sitting in the shed in a semi complete state (motor and some of the frame bits put together).

I'm a bit depressed. Guzzi have re-invented the wheel and got this thing they call a V7? Nice but a load of cobs wollop. Its an upstart Breva/Nevada without the smarts, and it ain't a big block.

Aha!
Have been waiting for an officianado to comment on the "new" V7!
All it has really is the colour scheme, and two spoked wheels.
It's like all these retros that manufacturers have been bringing out, and not just bikes, but 4 wheeled tin things as well, e.g. the Mini. (am I allowed to talk about things like that on here?)
Even TOASTERS, the ones that go in the kitchen, for Pete's sake!
This is 2008 (I think)........ride a modern bike or a genuine classic, not something pretending to be a classic, I say!
S'pose the new V7 might attract someone to the Guzzi marque, but? Will be interesting to see how it goes in Oz.

Hey Al,
It doesn't give a year just that it's a V7 Cali, there are more pictures of it & some other very desirable stuff.
Here is the link, they are called Made In Italy Motorcycles, they are somewhere in the UK.
http://www.madeinitalymotorcycles.com/stock_list.htm
You maybe right it might just be a bit of a mongrel, you are the V7 expert, I'd love to buy it but if I'm spending that sort of money then I'd rather get my Cali back on the road first.
