Bill is very happy and wishes to share with everyone.
This afternoon, Bill visited his usual test track, with the intention of sorting his suspension. Actually, Bill had been there yesterday doing that very same thing but his labours were foreshortened, after a lengthy session at the world's best custard tart shop ( WBCTS ).
However, he digresses, as they say in the classics and to cut a long story short, after getting the front-end as good as possible, he finally resorted to increasing the damping at the rear, by one increment. Boy, what a difference that made to the roadholding !! Bill was so unaccustomed to the feeling that he backed off in fear but was immediately reassured by the absence of front-end wobble, that previously had plagued his bike's cornering. So happy was Bill, that he turned round, went back to "go" and did it all again, much faster and without the previous, nasty feeling of alarm.
Thus, Bill rode home, contented. He even saw a moustachioed man on a grey Guzzi at a railway crossing. Goodness Gracious ! Bill was surprised, for he rarely sees a fellow Guzzisti. Wonder who he was?

Amazing the difference a few clicks here and there can make to handling. Amazing too how bad it can get when done wrong. I generally manage to get my bikes set up to suit me and like you am happy. I have to say I still do not have a full understanding of all the mysteries and black magic of suspension tuning. I think very few people really do.

BTW, is it true that referring to oneself in the third person is a sign of madness? Mark is sure he heard that somewhere :haha:

Bill is confused by English grammar. It makes his head spin and that is very bad for his motorcycling uprightness, if you get his drift.
As long as his bike corners with elegance, Bill couldn't give a hoot about his mental health.

Wal has tried sane & it doesn't work for him, being crazy means you can get away with anything.
Welcome to the club Bill, remember to keep telling people about the voices.

G'day Bill I'd like to ask you two questions. First where is the WBCTS and secondly what did you do with your suspension to make it that good. I have a V11 LeMans with Ohlins front and back and I'd like to do the same to my bike. Where is your favourite track or shouldn't you say publically?

Pleased to meet you God. Actually, Bill thought you owned a Cali and that that made him the Archangel Gabriel. However , Bill digresses.
*the WBCTS is the Montville patisserie
*Bill's test track is the Stanley River Road (SSR) between Policeman Spur and Skerman's Lane. Head south from Maleny on the Sunshine Coast and you will come to a downhill lefthander. That's it!! On reflection Bill thinks that that sounds a bit vague, so if you want to try it, Bill will guide you if you like.
*Bill is not familiar with the Le Mans, however you must get the sag right with your pre-load, front and back. Then ride the track with all damper settings on the softest. Not too fast now; you haven't got any damping! Increase the rebound or compression, not both, by a couple of notches until the handling improves. You will know where that point is when you go past it. Go back to the best setting, then repeat for compression or rebound at the same end. Then you can do the whole thing again for the other end of the bike: you just do one end at a time.

WHEW!!!
By now you are a few years older. Bill is. Bill wouldn't blame you if you needed a stiff drink.
There is an awful lot to this God, so give Bill a pm and we will chat on the phone if it makes anything clearer.

Happy trails

G'day Bill if I make it out of the WBCTS I may have to do some work on my sag!! If you follow my drift. Speaking of drift all that riding without damping of any sort would sort on encourage a quick sorting out of the suspension. Having only been involved briefly with suspension sorting a long time ago, it is good to know that nothing has changed. Sort out the spring loading then control the spring's energy in both directions. Simple eh?? My bike has a quality suspension (Ohlin's) and I'd like to take advantage of everything it can do. The only problem is that maybe the conditions of the road would be outside the operating parameters of the suspension but that's something all suspension's have to cope with I guess.
Perhaps a day of riding on a closed track would do the trick and allow me to get my suspension all but sorted for the road.
Re the Cali - yep I did own one of those long range tourers but it has moved onto another Downs owner.
For Swagzz, the phone is a red one and only useful to fellow Guzzi riders (and their voices!!)

Me thinks a trip to the WBCTS is in order... I love Montville... or would it be the 'roads' from Toowoomba to Montville that I love, hmm?!

Hi Tryg,
re the WBCTS.......I'll keep it warm for ya mate, til ya get here.
And speaking of "roads". The Peachester land slip is reportedly fixed so the detour route should should be relatively free of tin-tops. But if you are talking of 'roads' then I have no idea what you are talking about. The Voices in Swagzz's head are generating too much static on the Red Phone ha ha ha.
Happy trails,
Bill

Bill,
Its the road to Esk from Toowoomba, choco-block full of twists, then via the dams through the glasshouse surrounds... then up the range to Montville. Getting there is fun !
