The club is trying something a bit different tomorrow night. Full details on the calendar page of the website http://www.motoguzziclubqld.org/Calendar.htm

Should be fun, hope to see a few forum members there :guzzi:

Got home late from work, too late for the ride. Not happy. Logged on to find an email advising it has been postponed due the the current :censor: weather. Probably a good decision.

Apologies to anyone who went out to the start point, these things happen.

Great, got outa work early, busted me ars* to get there (Acacia Ridge to Ashgrove in 38 minutes peak hour) to wait and wait and wait. Just got home to see what the GO was.
Weather was nice, little cool, very dry.
When is it postponed too ????????
Nice run over to fill up in Ashgrove though.

Yes, we need a better/prompter way to communicate situations like this I guess.....e.g. perhaps the ride organiser(s) could make an early decision and get a post up here in time for everyone if a ride's off???? A tricky one. What did we do pre-internet? Just turn up or not, depending on how keen (or crazy) we were?

I raced home from work tonight, to pick up the bike, but traffic was not too helpful, and being on the opposite side of town wasn't sure I would make it to the BP in time.
Looked at the weather, the time, and decided to give it a miss.

Been grumpy all night, thinking I'd missed a good ride (moon was out and weather ok last time I looked outside!!).
So now I still have a night ride to look forward to :D

Ian T sent around an email this afternoon, I saw it about 6 when I got in. The club will usually send around an email if something gets altered, if it's really late in the piece then it's the mobile phone call.
we used to have a club mobile phone for stuff like this but it went by the boards some time ago.

Yes, I read the e-mail this morning.....I should've thought of that and checked when I arrived home from work last night, but of course that's of no use for those who are only Forum users, i.e. possibly non-members/not on the e-mail or phone lists.
In future, if a ride has been advertised on here, one of us should check our e-mails and get a post on here asap re any changes.
As Mark said, he would have done so, but was late home from work.
Such is life

Please don't take my post the wrong way.
Carving up the traffic on Sophia (The 1100 Sport) was the most fun had outside of a Bedroom imaginable.
Yes we cannot predict the weather in advance but if one of the organizers or a representative of said person could just go to the meeting point and say to the brave collection of fool hardy riders that brave the elements that the ride is off, which would save said idiot from looking like a lost kitten to the hoards of tin tops going in and out of there. Yes I only hung around until 7:45 (let the traffic quieten a bit more) before heading off for a quick lap or 3 around Mt Cootha then having a coffee up there and enjoying the sights before going home to the Minister of War and Finance (She who must be obeyed).
As I work silly shifts, it is only occasionally that I get a chance to take Sophia for a run to stretch her lungs and become one with her on a twisty road. I conned my way out of work to have a ride and I did, so in the end I'm happy.
Plus the high octane dinosaur piss (BP Ultimate) was really cheap as well, $1.12 a litre, bonus. :thumb:

The only solution to the ride problem, that I can see is a call list or a phone number that people can call to check that a ride is going ahead.
We had a suggestion years ago to have a club call list but some people didn't want their numbers given out (I can understand their reasons) & that was only to club members.
To do this on the forum the contact number would have to be published on the forum, so therefore open to all & sundry.
The other option is for the ride co-ordinator to post that the ride has been cancelled, but that presents problems as well, what if the co-ordinator has something sudden occur, that denies them the opportunity to post, what if you're coming from work & don't have access to the net?
I could go on with a lot of "what if's" but to have a hard & fast rule may not work.
I'll throw it open to you guys, chuck up a suggesting on how we address this, we can bash around the best ideas & maybe come up with something that'll work for everybody.

I think the only solution is to have the e-mail sent out as it was on this occasion, plus a post on the Forum, and someone prepared to sit at the meeting point for 30 mins or so to advise anyone who turns up, that the event is off.

If one or two do turn up, they can decide to turn around and go home, or go for a ride/drink/whatever anyway.

In the two years I've been in the Club, this is only the second time I can recall this need arising. First was the washed out Christmas W'end, and the committee knew who was coming to that, and got on the phone in time.

Perhaps there were other day trips that I didn't bother going on because of inclement weather, and somebody may have gone to the meeting point.

I've also wondered if we should have a more central meeting point, viz, if we choose Boonah, for a trip into NSW, someone living on the north side of Bris has to decide if it's worth riding all that way, with the possibility of no-one else being there.
On Tuesday, getting to The Gap servo was always going to be a rush for me to get home (sth eastern side) from work, dump the company car, and be there on the bike. Would've just made it I think, but slightly closer to town would've saved a bit of stress.
Anyway, that's my :2c: worth. I think we've tried our best to accomodate everyone. Mix-ups still happen sometimes.
