Only ugly as in any dual-purpose bike (trail-bikes on steroids).
But if you had to have a dual-purpose bike, it would have to be a Stelvio, wouldn't it?
Don't you just love those dinky little glove compartments?

Ugly compared to what?

A closing comment written by an owner on the Guzzista forum comparing the Stelvio to the GS went along the lines of: "Would you rather a pert Italian in black panties and stockings or a fat arsed German in leather shorts?"

You'll have to excuse Hairee, Oz , he rides a Breva for christ's sake. Obviously he has absolutely NO(bloody left that out the first time) taste at all.
I love the Stelvio & if I was in the market for a dually, I'd rather have that than just be another nobody on one of those saggy tit things.

Hey! I didn't make the "ugly as" statement! I only said the Stelvio is ugly in the same way as any dual purpose bike, regardless of make.
But I'd sure as eggs have a Stelvio, with a bigger tank please, if I had a purpose for one, rather than the Beemer.
And I wouldn't bother with a chain-driven variety either.
Thinks: some people might prefer a weight-challenged German........ :)
Can't wait to see a Stelvio in Oz.

Okay,
We're raising the front guard for more crud clearance, fitting different rims to optimise the tyre choice, fitting an AM (me guesses plastic) tank for increased range.
F#ck with all this brilliance maybe we should either get jobs is the R&D department at Guzzi OR did you want me to email Guzzi giving our suggestions on creating the Stelvio Aussie.
Anything else we need on it, besides the twin stubbie cooler/holders.

Well, since you've asked.....

Heated grips (laugh it up, they are bloody wonderful), hand guards, a bash plate made of steel (not bloody plastic).

That should keep the R&D department busy for a while. I reckon we'd be great working there Wal. Cruise in for a few hours toil at the factory each day, then a cleansing ride around Lake Como, taking in a long lunch on the way. This is all part of the creative and research process and would of course be on company time.

Hell, I'd even be prepared to put in overtime on the weekends doing touring testing. But thats just me, I have one hell of a work ethic

Na,
Ya got it totally wrong, I'm a bloody slave driver, but here goes the typical schedule for the working day.

8am- Morning briefing discussing the days expected progress, this will have to be done over Latte's.

9am- R&D testing , a quick ride around Lake Como, to discover what (if anything) is wrong with a particular model.

Midday- Public relations/Lunch with the locals in a nice cafe in Mandello del Lario (company expense, of course).

2pm- Back to work, Discussion session on the mornings testing & public relations exercise.

3.30pm- Afternoon tea (actually latte again).

4.30pm- Planning meeting, discuss which models require further product evaluation & promotion.

6pm- Leave factory with bikes that require product evaluation & promotion.

7.30pm- After a promotion ride around Lake Como, park products outside a restaurant for the public to view & discuss their likes/dislikes, public relations with the restaurant owner (company expense, of course).

9.30pm- Finish working day, too late to take products back to factory, so take them home for safe keeping.

So there you go, over 13 hours for the typical week day, you do not want to know what weekend work entails but it would be around 36-37 hours on the job straight.

Drink-riding laws?
Not sure, but I'm not sure that the local Polizia would be doing too much breath testing, what with the new Moto Guzzi polizia bike of their choice to ride around on.
Good advertising & public relations, of course.

Post note: I had to edit my post as I spelt Polizia wrong, my bloody Italian is slipping.

Note to all those that will be coming to work atthe Guzzi R&D section- Make sure your Italian is up to scratch, I don't want you asking for a beer & having the bartender chasing you with a shotgun, cause of what you asked to do to his daughter.

 :) Hey I can do the translating for you guys - at a price of course!!! Costa Molt!!! I can even value add with a bit of french if we need or want to cross the boader - but this I do not recommend!

PS. I have been playing with my future Grisso at Moss Street but decided I'd put off the purcahse until my fellow Italians saw the light and do a model with a lower seat height,,... & while they are at it they could knock of a few kilos too.

In the interim I have bought a baby Monster 695 to play and practice around the twisties
So now I have my Trumphy speedmaster for crusing, baby Monster Ducfor twisties and maybe,? just maybe this new Guzzi for the off/on road adventure I am planning year end 2009....until.....whenever - whereever, starting from Brisy of course - pointing the bike any direction & I'm off.......

PS. anyone know the seat height, weight and the potential cost of this new adventurer??? __ I am soooo glad I do not have to buy a BMW GS 800 for this trip --I'd much prefer a Guzi any day!!!
See ya
love T

Seat height = 840mm, Dry weight = 214kg according to [http://www.motorcyclespecs.co.za/index.htm

Found this Stelvio whilst I was there, intersting. But it still looks like the same puny sized fuel tank http://www.motorcyclespecs.co.za/model/moto%20guzzi/Moto%20Guzzi%20Stelvio%20tt%2009.htm

Looks like it has some nice bits on it. Wonder if we will see it here.
