After 3 years carting my 120kg (plus luggage on long trips) over 80,000 kms my lovely red Breva 1100 is starting to feel a bit soggy and tired in the rear shockie.....I've basically run out of pre-load. Has anyone done a replacement or upgrade on this shocker and can offer me any advice? Should I look at getting the spring retempered or replaced?

All advice and ideas (other than lose some weight!) welcome.

Hi and welcome,

I've heard good things about Hyperpro suspension. The only place I know of that deals it is in the US http://www.guzzitech.com/store/HyperPro-Monoshocks.html. This business has a very good reputation however the aussie dollar is looking real flash so I dread to think what it would cost now. I found a NZ impoter on the Hyperpro site http://www.hyperpro.com/home/index.asp (go to the importers page). Maybe worth an email to see if they can help you out.

If you want something local and no doubt cheaper I can recommend talking to the guys at Rad Motorcycle Shock Repairs in Brisbane. I've had work done there and the shocks came back better than new. They can rebuild to suit your weight etc. Phone number is (07) 3379 3302. Actually I've never met anyone who was not happy with their work, so well worth a try.

Let us know what you end up doing and the results please.

After finding out that getting my old shocker rebuilt with a new spring would involve two weeks off the road (rather than a do-able 3 days in Brisbane for a recondition) I decided to buy a new one. I've now got a new Hagon unit for $980 that, so far, feels pretty smooth and supple over all types of surfaces. Only problem, maybe, is that it lacks remote pre-load adjustment, but as I haven't had a pillion on board yet it may not be a problem at all. No more tired rear end!

Good to hear you've got it sorted. Maybe you could give us a report on the Hagon shock when you've put a few more miles on it? BTW, what is the part number? I found no listing for the Breva on their website.

Mark - I finally found out about the Hagon listings for the Breva rear shocker. You couldn't find it because it doesn't exist. Hagon have the eyes for the Breva mounts, a standard body and fit internals and spring to order...so it doesn't appear in any catalogue and is only made to order. The performance has been excellent, no more grinding my centre stand up and down the Gillies Highway and showering mates with sparks! I'm off to Phillip Island next weekend so will be able to report on how it travels with a load on.
