Hi Guy's, Just found this forum and it sounds like you Guzzists from Down Under are having a great time. My name is Rob Simpson and I ride a 1981 V50 III. My mate has a V50 Monza and a 1000 SP. My brother in law has a 1981 Honda 1100RC. We are all in the process of getting our Austrailian immigration visas and would like to know if it would be worth our while bringing these bikes or buying when we get there? I am hoping to be in the Maroochedore area by the end of 2009 and I am looking forward to riding around some of the countryside once there. Anyway it was great reading some of your comments to each other and I hope to meet you face to face in the near future. Cheers and happy riding.

Hi rob, Welcome to the forum and the country !! Had a quick look at a local mag. Try, "Get Routed", (no offence intended: its Oz humour I think) for transporting your bikes. dave@getrouted.com.au Try Aussie Biker to rent a bike. I've used them myself. www.aussiebiker.com.au Aussie Biker is up near Noosa, on the sunshine coast, where I live. Maroochydore is aborigine and I don't blame you for not spelling it 100%. Only one letter out was pretty good ! Drop us a line when you get here. If I live that long I'll go and see you. It will add to the excitement. There are some nice roads here, mate. Also sun, sand, surf and sex but that wouldn't interest you blokes, would it?! haha! seeyaboys

I'm only about 10 minutes from Maroochy. There is actually a guzzi dealership there but I don't deal with them. I tried it once and won't go back. Don Newell Motorcycles in Brisbane is the place to go for older bikes. Google it.
Older small blocks are around but they don't come up for sale that often. If it isn't that expensive then I'd seriously consider shipping them over. If you want to upgrade to a 750 Breva or Nevada then check out the price difference. They are more readily available.
Among other things I have a Monza. I haven't seen one advertised for sale in quite some time. Probably nearly a year. Australia is a big place. Just because one is for sale doesn't mean that it will be close by either.
Better the devil you know than the one you don't.
Rod

G'day and welcome Rob (is this our first overseas forum member? I think so).
My advice is bring the bikes, the older models like the Monza seem to be going up in value as the years roll by.
Rod's advice about who to take your Guzzi to is spot on. Hey, don't worry about googling it, there is a link to Don Newell M/C on the portal page of the forum. The business is now run by Tom (Don's son) and his wife Shelley, so it is a second generation Guzzi shop. Tom is a club member since forever and loves Guzzi's, so you are dealing with someone who knows his stuff.
Good luck with all the BS getting visas and everything. Look forward to riding with you when you get here.

Hi guys, Thanks for the replies and the advice. I really appreciate it. If you could give me some indication on what the bikes might be worth, it would help me to work out the cost of shipping and registration against the price of another one there. It also seems like Guzzi's are alot more available over there than here. We are starting to battle with parts for the older bikes over here. I suppose that is the price of owning something unique!!! Chat again soon.

I'm not exactly sure which road you are meaning. I'm not that big into all the names. I crossed the Stanley River yesterday on one of my riding circuits. I went in a big loop from home to Somerset, Mt Glorious, Mt Mee then back home. I went via Mary Caincross to Peachester/Woodford Rd and on the way back up Bald Knob Rd. Both of these have their merits. This is about a 350km circuit. My favourite is up through Maleny, Witta, Kenilworth, Obi Obi then back home. There is a bike friendly cafe, Bellbird Creek, just south of Kenilworth. I also like going for brunch or coffee to Imbil and sometimes I meander along the Eastern Mary River Rd. Its more scenic than ride friendly. Cheers Rod

G'day Rod, It sounds like you ride StanleY river Road without knowing it. It runs between Maleny and Peachester and you can get to it from Mary Cairncross. The Bald Knob Road is a lovely scenic ride which I do in second so as not to miss the view. Tomorrow I'm going up Phillips Road from Woombye, heading south down to S R Rd. When I reach Peachester I chuck a yewy? and go all the way back to Mapleton where I discovered the world's best custard tart shop, quite some time ago. This is just a short ride but I can do it and keep an appointment in the pm The road Up Obi Obi is a ripper, probably as good as Mt. Glorious, which I never ride anymore. The coffee was good there though. The road between Woodford and Mt. Mee is a beauty too. A longer ride I do is through Peachester to Kilcoy and then to the Esk bakery via Somerset. From Esk the road travels past Wivenhoe, a route I really like as during the week there is scarcely any traffic. It's a really calming feeling. Once past Wivenhoe it is Splityards Ck. Rd. to the Catchment cafe at Somerset. Going back home past the water never palls for some reason and if you feel like some excitement by the time Peachester shows up, then S R Rd. is on the left. seeya, Rod. Gotta watch tele
