Gday guys, i have a 2008 breva 750 and have been having some troubles with it. I love it to death and it has been very reliable but the problem i have is the dealership where the services have been done. At the 1500km service i got the bike back and it was running rough but still going ok, when cold it refused to idle without shutting off. They said it was fuel so i kept to the 95 octane and checked for water. After a month when i put the bike under hard accelaration from 2000rpm to 4000rpm it was piston slapping and having a hard time picking up speed.
I have just done the 6500km service today and when i picked it up the registered guzzi dealer/ mechanic told me the EFI and oil lights wouldn't go out on the dash and the tacho had a red light at the bottom right corner that constantly stayed on and he didn't know why? What a joke i thought that was. That light has never worked since i bought it?
They had a look at it and managed to get the oil and EFI lights to stop coming up but the red light wont go out on the tacho? So they said they would look into it and said it should be ok to ride home. I was told they were looking into why the electrcal gremlins were in it.
On the way home the red light on the tacho stayed on constantly and also stayed on when i turned the ignition completely off? Plus when you turn the bike back on this light and the EFI light stay on for 5 seconds and they both go out, i start the bike and the red tacho light comes on again.
Can you provide me with any info on this cause it is very weird?
The mechanic said he had an aprillia do the same thing 2 weeks earlier?
I personally think the computer is in safety mode because i can't rev it past 6500rpm and the piston slap is still there so the engine synchronization is out but try telling that to this mechanic at the dealer!!!!
Any advice would be much appreciated

Yes, Tom Newell was my first thought when I read of your Breva problems scottyk316.....not much use to you unless you are going to be in Bris.
He's very helpful so a phone call might be of assistance.
I had a fault with my 750 Breva when new, over two years and 43,000 km's ago.......all dash/instrument lights would go out, but the bike would run ok. Could only clear the problem by disconnecting the battery or main fuse to reset things.
Tom checked/reseated every connector he could find....main suspect was the main connector up under the "dash" somewhere.
Also had rough idling, back-firing, dying when stopped at traffic lights etc. Thinking was, like you, maybe bad petrol, but I persisted with BP Ultimate mostly. Still didn't seem to make much difference, and to be perfectly honest there were times when I used plain old unleaded e.g on club trips when we couldn't find anything else, and it seemed to run better???!!
Once I had a few k's on it, I had the opportunity one day to "test" it out......(no I'm not advocating doing anything illegal, but I gave it a good blast at speeds that are highly illegal on public roads) and noticed it ran as sweet as anything afterwards.
At 20,000 k's we fitted new air and fuel filters, and I noticed an amazing difference.....don't think it was my imagination.....it really did seem to improve......felt revvier, and no back-firing etc.
At 40,000 k's the engine has loosened up nicely, & it is running brilliantly. Most of my riding is on day trips, weekends away, club rides etc. Did the Phillip Island thing year before last....longest trip so far.
Often wonder if I was commuting on the bike, would the back-firing etc return, but hopefully it will continue behaving itself for a long time to come yet.
I think they are a great bike......on paper they are down on power, but in practice out on the road I am more than happy......tours well, economical to run, fun on the twisty stuff.......who needs a bigger, more expensive bike??!!
Here's hoping you sort things out, and maybe we will see you in Brisbane sometime......
Cheers...... :guzzi: :number1: :race:
